Instead of exploring ways to extend the primary school day, it might be worth exploring ways to reduce some of the content in the primary school curriculum. It would help lessen the current panic about 'closing gaps' and 'catching up'.

Here’s what children need to “catch up”. They need: - More libraries - More swimming pools - More school playing fields - More Sure Start centres - More space at home to work You know, all the thing Tories have been voting to take away from them these past 11 years.
