Another stunning detail from a 17th-century casket panel. The squirrel and the leaves and buds of the tree on which it perches are lightly raised. The clouds above the tree are made of tiny French knots. And the squirrel's tail is made of feathers -- a very rare survival!

I’ve arrived in Dublin for #RSA2022 with two goals: to give a paper on the Book of Common Prayer and to drink Guinness with friends. A few minutes ago I peeked into a display case and saw Benjamin Guinness’s BCP. this is too much!

Today is (probably) Shakespeare’s 457th birthday! Coincidentally, it's also his death day. Over the years, Modern Philology has published hundreds of articles on the Bard’s work--here are some highlights for your perusing pleasure! 🧵

At the end of a busy day we were thrilled to show, the recently awarded “Freedom of Stratford-upon-Avon”, Dame Judi Dench all the flowers laid at Shakespeare’s grave today. #happybirthdayshakespeare
