🌑ᅠ ابن الهيثم, the new release of Principia, adds a new rotating and pulsating reference frame wherein equipotentials are drawn. This provides valuable context when planning low-energy transfers and other trajectories involving the Lagrange points. github.com/mockingbirdnes…

"Instead of asking for a Sumerian speaker, how about you learn Amorite?!" Yasmaḫ-Addû is back and this time he can't speak Amorite. ☹️ What could be the context of his request for a Sumerian scribe & why would his father then scold him for not knowing Amorite? Find out below!

One of my favourite features in Akkadian is that sometimes(!) the adverbial marker -iš can be used like the English -ish. abru "brushwood pile" -> abriš "like a brushwood pile", or in other words: brushwood pileish 😁

“Clothes make the awīlum” In Old Babylonian schools, if you didn’t wear the newest Prada™ robes but instead clothes hand-made by your mum, you were considered to be less loved by her. … or so argued this spoiled son of a high official. Here is the letter of Iddin-Sîn to Zinû!

The Mesopotamian ice trade 🧊🌨️ This letter was sent to our favourite good-for-nothing, Yasmaḫ-Addû, by the vassal king of Carchemish. It shows us that the practice of harvesting ice and exporting it goes back to as early as the 1750s BCE! (1/6)
