Classification of plants with year 6, structure of the eye and eye dissections with year 7 and enzymes for IG Bio! A great week of teaching! Passionate and exhausted in equal measure

If I had to sum up the crucial idea of learning as a cumulative process of forgetting and remembering and in one sentence, it would be this: "the act of retrieval is itself a potent learning event." (Bjork, Bjork 1992) Retrieval practice isn't about testing whether someone has

Things I believe: Teachers are professionals, and should act as such Teachers should have high expectations of their students, and of themselves That includes academic expectations Whilst teachers might be entertaining at points, they aren't entertainers Some teaching

Science Week 2024 is in full swing, we’ve had science CCA’s and science shows in our theatre just to name a few. Exhausted already 😂 but still more magic left to come. Modelling our balloon wheels after an epic day of shows.

The fragility of life is so shocking. I’ve known Michael Mosley for many years - as a tv producer specialising in science and medicine. He was the executive producer of my 2009 series Human Journey. When he started presenting as well as producing, we made several science

It's so important for teachers to understand the implications of Cognitive Load Theory & the limitations of working memory for their students. But it's just as important for them to understand the importance of those things for themselves... A🧵

We learn more from reading on paper than on screens. 54 studies, 171k people: we process print more deeply than digital content—as long as it's informational rather than purely narrative. The paper advantage holds across ages and has grown over time. Long live physical books.

TEACHERS! Do your best to stay away from tech in the classroom and with homework! We use tech minimally at Michaela and strongly encourage parents not to give their kids a smartphone. Tech has its uses but it needs strong supervision and not all parents can give that.
