“We can’t afford to be passive. Sprawl advocates are already using this pandemic to champion more low-density, spread-out suburban devt. Car companies will use it to try to convince us that cars are safe & transit isn’t.” - Brent Toderian a year ago today vox.com/cities-and-urb…

Those choosing to live in the suburbs (it’s not a choice for everyone, but for many it IS, chasing “more house/yard”) aren't entitled to free-flow car traffic capacity into the city at the expense of the taxes, health, safety & quality of life of city-dwellers. HT Ian Lockwood PE

Since I’m asked this CONSTANTLY, if your city-region is REALLY concerned about “solving car congestion,” you need a combination of smart land-use, walking/biking/transit infrastructure that’s inviting, & a pricing mechanism for driving that’s high enough to get people to change.

(heavy sigh having to do what 99% of local reporters do regularly) (reporter game face on) Hi! I'm looking to interview a Vancouver parent who is on the wait list to get their kid into their catchment school for Kindergarten. If this is you, please DM me! (exhales, mutters)

Vancouver has completely failed when it comes to providing enough schools in the core of the city, and every year it causes stress for parents with a child entering Kindergarten cbc.ca/news/canada/br…

A reported cougar sighting in Shaughnessy earlier today turned out to be a Savannah cat, which is a large house pet. Officers captured the cat and returned it to its owner.
