We have started strong! Beginning with Dr. Brandolino, UNODC’s Director of the Division for Treaty Affairs, who opened the ECPR-SGOC Summer School with inspiring remarks and an informative presentation. A great start to two weeks of insight, dialogue, and global collaboration!

Mr. Gallo welcomed participants with opening remarks on the UNODC’s global role. Mr. Craig followed with an overview of UNTOC. An impactful beginning as the summer school is in full swing.

Today’s sessions tackled two urgent global issues: Maximilian shared insights on organized fraud and its evolving nature, while Ian Tennant explored crimes against the environment and the role of the GI-TOC. Powerful discussions on hidden threats in organized crime.

A full day of critical insights: Alexandre Schick and Joanna Mileva led a powerful session on trafficking in persons, highlighting global trends and responses. Ted Leggett unpacked the complexities of illicit tobacco trafficking. Vital knowledge from leading experts!

Today we explored the power of data in fighting organized crime. Angela Me, Chief of UNODC's Research and Trend Analysis Branch, shared insights on crime measurement and global trends. Later, Margot Denier unpacked the complexities of firearms trafficking and UNODC’s response.

On Tuesday, ECPR-SGOC Summer School participants had the opportunity to visit the OSCE headquarters in Vienna. An insightful session on the organization’s role in international security, cooperation, and the fight against organized crime.

On Wednesday, students met with representatives from the U.S. Mission to International Organizations in Vienna (UNVIE), where they explored multilateral diplomacy and learned about UN career paths with Sophie Mace. A big thanks to UNVIE for the insights—and the great photos!

Friday was the final day of the ECPR-SGOC Summer School. Citlalin Castandea De la Mora opened with insights on international collaboration, followed by Magda Jugheli on the work of INTERPOL, and Sarah Pirker on GENJUST. A strong finish to a rich week of learning.

We closed the Summer School with a presentation on The Alliance of NGOs on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice from Tobias Krachler and a thoughtful final address from Riika Puttonen. The day concluded with our award ceremony, including the presentation of the Bill Tupman Award
