"Commercialism has made possible the erection of fine academic buildings...from the profits of college athletics, but those profits have been gained because colleges have permitted the youths entrusted to their care to be openly exploited." The Carnegie Report, 1929

Here at NAASE we don't limit ourselves to questioning taxpayer giveaways to sports entertainers. JC Bradbury's examination of film subsidies shows that we are equal opportunity critics. ajc.com/news/opinion/o…

"ESPN paid $500 million for a TV contract. You know how much money Connecticut, Stanford or Baylor will get for winning the women’s tournament? Nothing. The NCAA provides no payouts to women at all. It refuses to factor the women into any revenue-sharing." washingtonpost.com/sports/2021/03…

Men's tourney courts say "March Madness;" women's say "Women's Basketball." That's intentional: the NCAA for years has denied women the use of the powerful “March Madness” brand even though it’s trademarked for both tournaments. @bachscore Louise Radnofsky wsj.com/articles/march…

espn.com/nfl/story/_/id… Men's sports owner on what he's doing: "...we're not in the business to be in business. We're in this business to win." When men own women's teams, though, all you hear about is money. The "gender-enthusiasm gap" in sports needs to be discussed more!

The NCAA initially told WSJ that women's bball leaders "chose" not to use the March Madness brand. After WSJ reached out to a former official, NCAA admitted that was inaccurate. Turns out WBB execs asked at least once to use the brand and were rejected. wsj.com/articles/march…

You've heard arguments that go something like this: "When Ezekiel Elliott gets 25+ carries, his team is 19-4." This is explained by the incentives teams face late in games. Teams run more when they're already likely to win. Light blue = winning teams Dark blue = losing teams

Buck O’Neil, who is a one of the most important figures in baseball history shares a tremendous story about #JackieRobinson - the ending still gives me goosebumps. I don’t think til this day we truly know how important of a person #Jackie42 was. #MustWatch Bob Kendrick

Updating my NFL analytics staffers list. As always, this is to the best of my understanding based on what teams list and conversations with staffers themselves. Criteria broadly is: staffers whose primary job is to perform data analysis or build football analytics tools.

An important note with Jacksonville is that they have an unorthodox setup in which most of their analytics staffers work on both football side and business side.

The Jaguars are hiring Dolphins director of personnel analytics Eugene Shen as VP of football analytics, per sources. Shen is an analytics veteran who worked for the Ravens prior to his stint in Miami.
