Wrapping up #NBERSI w/ important work by Dr. Chloe N. East she/her @chloeneast.bsky.social & Jason Cook on labor supply and SNAP disenrollment effects of work requirements. Not much evidence for increased labor supply but rather large drops in enrollment as a consequence

My paper w David Simon on the safety net for job losers is forthcoming Journal of Public Economics! Results can be summed up in a few figures & access is free for 50 days👇 32% of lost earnings replaced by public benefits (mostly UI) & this reduces poverty by 18pp, but regressive at bottom

Happy to share that my paper, "Race-blind admissions, school segregation, and student outcomes" is now out at Journal of Public Economics! It has been a long journey (my paper would be a third grader this year), but I'm thrilled at the outcome! sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Switching to race-blind admissions lotteries increases racial segregation. Segregation arising from mandated race-blind admissions causes student achievement and college attendance rates to decline.

A few more words about the "Practical Guide to Shift-Share Instruments" that we just posted (w/ Peter Hull, Xavier Jaravel) We tried to make it useful to wide groups of readers: new users of shift-share IVs, experienced users, and those who didn't even know they were users (1/N)
