In December, when Nathan Allan initially told faculty policy committee about the President's plan for NCF to offer an online Great Books "degree" starting this spring, he sped through the phrase "third party content provider." Even he knows it is bullshit.

I had a campus visit at New College last year, and while the duress was visible on students and faculty members faces, this level of dismantling of the institution's standards this quickly is shocking. Solidarity with the great folks still at New College.

BREAKING: New College of Florida faculty voted to oppose the college’s new online degree program. The new program launched in collaboration with billionaire GOP- megadonor Joe Ricketts. Faculty were not advised, they said. My latest for Sarasota Herald-Tribune: heraldtribune.com/story/news/edu…

Also at the faculty meeting: Rancourt telling the faculty to keep disagreements in house because it is making the college look bad which is hurting admissions.

The regime is getting desperate to "prove" their scheme is working. 70+ spring admits, most with middling to low GPAs, to make up for the # of students who left. Churning students to maintain the mirage of growing enrollment is unethical. No one wins in this scenario.

This is sad. I feel for the students and the staff. This is the state we live in Florida. These orgs worked to make students accepted and successful while they are on campus. There are so many real dangers in this world that being afraid of a student center is pathetic.

A bill moving through the Florida Legislature (with the backing of the House speaker) would delete the majority of references to climate change in state law .Emily L. Mahoney’s debut on the energy/climate beat is 🔥 tampabay.com/news/environme…

Reminder: post-baccalaureate programs are a great, PAID opportunity for grads to get research experience before applying for PhD Programs, or if rejected this cycle. Many apps still open! Cientifico Latino, Inc. has a thorough database of opportunities here: cientificolatino.com/post-bac

It’s important for us scientists to articulate that the NIH cuts are surgically cruel: designed not to save money, but to maximally implode the capacity and infrastructure for research; research that saves and improves lives around the world. Why? Just cruelty.

Last night my brilliant friend with 20 years of expertise in Neuroscience including a decade at NIDA was fired because she was recently promoted for her outstanding performance and it triggered the probation period. This is not making NIH more efficient, this is not making us
