Sometimes Kshatriya status was given by the Kings. A Kongalva warrior who helped the Cholas conquer Coorg were elevated as "The crest jewel of the Kshatriyas" ~1000 A.D. In other inscriptions Kongalvas are called Vellalas. 1/2
