The E5P steering group met yesterday with the İqtisadiyyat Nazirliyi 🇦🇿, EUinAzerbaijan & donors from Germany, Türkiye & Slovakia to discuss infrastructure projects – including a new wastewater plant in Shaki & progress on an upgrade to Ganja’s street lighting.

🇦🇿 Street lighting can use up to 40% of a city’s energy. In Ganja, streetlights are being upgraded to LEDs with smart controls – supported by an E5P grant and The EBRD loan. The project will cut 5,000 tons of CO₂ a year – like removing 2,750 cars from the road. #E5P #EBRD

The UNESCO city of Shaki is known for its cobbled streets and mountain views but many residents still lack basic services. With an The EBRD loan and an E5P grant, new water systems will bring safe drinking water and sanitation to thousands. EUinAzerbaijan İqtisadiyyat Nazirliyi 🇦🇿

This Friday, E5P contributors meet in London to review progress and approve new funding, with a focus on completed projects in Ukraine, Armenia and Moldova. Our support is helping cities deliver cleaner heat, safer services and low-carbon transport.

Following the E5P Environmental Fund Assembly end of November, Germany provided additional funds of €8M for Ukraine and €2M for Moldova. Germany remains one of the key contributors to the fund helping war torn Ukraine and EE upgrades in Moldova. Many thanks to IKI Germany, Bundesumweltministerium.

Our delegation led by Odile Renaud-Basso is in Moldova today. The visit has started from the northern city of Bălți, where we have rehabilitated district heating plant to provide efficient heat supply in Moldova’s second city.
