This violates international law and prior Israeli commitments, and falls within the scope of President Biden Biden’s Executive Order against actions “that threaten the peace, security, or stability of the West Bank”

Biden should enforce his Executive Order against the officials involved.

NR fellow Negar Mortazavi نگار مرتضوی tells Ellen Ioanes Vox little change is expected with Raisi's successor:

“I see a little bit of opening in the enforcement of [...] lifestyle policing of young Iranians. That’s the one area.”

This is outrageous and a clear violation of US law prohibiting the restriction of humanitarian aid delivery.

It’s unconscionable that President Biden Biden’s administration, counter to a mountain of evidence, is treating Israel as if it is in compliance with a law it’s clearly breaking.

If only it could have been predicted that a largely indiscriminate bombardment explicitly intended to collectively punish all Palestinians in Gaza would backfire and end up hurting Israeli and regional security.

An entirely foreseeable and valid response to unrelenting settlement expansion, demolitions and forced displacement in violation of international law.

Moves to bolster a Palestinian state and its viability are necessary to counter Netanyahu’s rejectionism and annexation moves.

The Department of State and Secretary Antony Blinken must clarify or walk this back without further delay.

Penalizing and intimidating legitimate international institutions or their officers is what autocrats and pariah states do, not democracies claiming to champion human rights and the rule of law.

Ireland, Norway and Spain are right to recognize Palestinian statehood.

Recognizing both Palestine and Israel affirms both peoples’ right to self-determination and the internationally-endorsed vision for peacefully ending their conflict.

It’s in US interests to welcome it.

Those claiming this “rewards Hamas” have it exactly backward. Hamas feeds off of Palestinian hopelessness. Israel’s denial of Palestinian rights has functioned as a Hamas recruitment program. Diplomatic recognition offers a credible alternative nonviolent path to liberation.

Sanctioning the ICC on the one hand and actively supporting an ICC war crimes investigation against Russia on the other will smack as blatant hypocrisy to about 80% of the world’s population. Somehow U.S. officials will argue this is still in keeping with the rules-based order.

“The ICC is not making some claim of equivalence, but is in fact holding both sides in this current war to the same standard. Yes, democratically elected officials can commit war crimes. We can’t only apply international law when it’s convenient.” - Bernie Sanders

It would be an historic and dangerous mistake for a Democratic Administration to participate in an attack on international law and institutions.
