All power to Professor Alatout, a great scholar of water in Palestine. Read his important article 'Bringing Abundance into Environmental Politics: Constructing a Zionist Network of Water Abundance, Immigration, and Colonization' jstor.org/stable/27793298

No one's getting arrested for committing war crimes. Only for objecting to war crimes. Committed with money appropriated from Americans who paid their taxes and tuitions, but have no say in how they're used. Whether it's Biden or Trump, the US ruling class expects total immunity.

The reality we live in is frightening. Donโ€™t let anyone convince you not to believe your own eyes and ears and heart. We will continue to work everyday for a better reality.

The AAUP & our chapters defend the right to free speech & peaceful protest on university campuses, condemn the militarized response by institutional leaders to these activities, & vehemently oppose the politically motivated assault on higher education.

this moment is really putting into perspective what โ€˜the pointโ€™ of the university is. a space to learn, grow, and conceive of whatโ€™s good and right, not a space to simply train for a job or to exploit students for debt money.

across the us, on campuses with protests and without them, this fundamental link-between โ€˜usโ€™ and our students-has been eroded through the corrosive and coercive corporatization of education as a commodity, as opposed to education as a social good, one that defines our humanity.

work in higher ed?

then your retirements are probably funneled through TIAA. i am hosting a free workshop tomorrow-open to anyone-to learn about way to divest your retirements from fossil fuels, land grabbing, and weapons.

from columbia to our banks, it's all connected.โœŠ

*fixed it* -- raising tuition, exploiting students, to cover the costs of decisions they did not make will never be ok.

it's heartbreaking that students have to endure so much financial instability in order to create better conditions for themselves.

as faculty, we are often told we need to write more op-eds, but op-eds opportunities are few and far between. still, so many are written about us, and it is important that we speak for ourselves. this workshop is meant to help us figure that out! โœŠ

a reminder -- if folks are interested in ways that community radio can help us reorient the discourse on higher ed - away from exploitation and anti-intellectualism and towards our work being perceived as a social good - than please register and tune in!

faculty are caught up in a culture war, as evidenced by waves of legislation and budget cuts targeting higher ed.

i am organizing a series of workshops to help faculty communicate with the communities where we live, starting with community radio. โœŠ๐Ÿ–ค

there are real budget concerns, but these are due to leadershipโ€ฆ and the consequences are passed onto students (tuition), staff (more work, less help), and faculty (larger classes, no compensation). the grounds for the crisis are questionable, but the impacts are all too real.
