Report from Tbilisi, Georgia, where our audiovisual archivist Dave Walker has been sharing skills in audio preservation and restoration, just in time for World Audiovisual Heritage Day! #WAVHD #NationalArchivesMonth

The Tbilisi State Conservatoire is home to many recordings that contain parts of Georgia's rich musical heritage. Recently, members of our SmithsonianFolklife and our Smithsonian technology team spent two weeks training professionals there in audio preservation work.

They shared equipment, techniques for stabilizing open reel audio tapes, and digitization best practices. Together, the team set up a media conservation lab and captured high-quality recordings that will ensure future generations can enjoy and learn from these collections.

All of us at the Smithsonian are honored to play an active role in the global community of professionals in the fields of museums, archives, libraries, and cultural centers.
