EpiPens are toxic in space and NASA didn't know! In fact, a group of elementary school students figured it out. Here's the story 🧵

Inspired in a million ways by the brilliant Katriona O'Sullivan and her book “Poor”, my friend and I went to an inner city Dublin primary school to chat to pupils about our respective careers (wearing our nicest trainers!👟). So many echoes of my own educational experience.

"If you're under 25 your brain isn't fully developed, so you can't be trusted to make informed decisions" I'm seeing this a LOT lately, especially today. And it's utter guff, based on hearsay, misunderstandings of neuroscience, or wilful ignorance. Why? I'll tell you why /1

The people of Ireland deserve better access to #ClinicalTrials! People also deserve stable employment and living conditions while doing this important work. How do we make this happen?

4 years ago I was organising a postdoc careers event to hear about jobs outside academia. Today I’m back - this time as a speaker, telling everyone about life as a scientific writer 😊

Gangland Dublin, in the 18th century, featured a group of violent upper-class thugs called "The Pinking Dindies". Don't be deceived by their soft-sounding name. Comprising of students from Trinity College and idle rich snobs, this posh extortion gang lived up to their reputation

Newsletter: Goldman Sachs has called BS on Generative AI, and I believe that it's time that everybody follows suit - generative AI is unreliable, unsustainable, requires an entire rebuild of America's power grid, and is most decidedly not the future. wheresyoured.at/pop-culture/

What kind of childhood makes a top scientist? Is it enough to have all the right traits (brilliance, grit, etc) or do you need the right family too? And why should we care? A 🧵 on our paper on the Nobel Laureates. A teaser: the income distribution of the laureates' fathers.1/N

My name is Bernard, living in Ireland. I have stage 4 stomach cancer. My medical consultants recommend Immunotherapy and chemotherapy. Despite best scientific and clinical evidence, my Irish healthcare insurer won't fund this. Am I alone?
