It’s a #Z1! Did you know that Konrad Zuse filed patents on computer pipeline architecture already in 1949? After the patents ran out, #Cray took it up in the 1960s? This and many more interesting computer historic details about binary, digital, and mechanical computers made in

Where is my #elephant? I was trying to reproduce this #silicondoodle by trying variations of the #ITT 4116, but failed sofar. No doodle on the 3N and 3J. Will continue my search…

#PHILIPS. Another chip with small mask differences… I found the version without “BIRGIT“ (German female first name) next to the city crest of Hamburg (where Philips had its fab), but with the little owl family next to a contact pad…

It’s a #RF chip! The #NationalSemiconductor LMX2331 is a Low Power Dual Frequency Synthesizer for RF Personal Communications. I found it embedded in #Nokia‘s 1620 mobile phone. The chip has two #silicondoodles showing the role of the IC in telecommunication devices.

What do #CPU enthusiasts do when they meet in real life? Thanks Fritzchens Fritz for the fun coffee chat today among like-minded people, and thanks for the Alpha CPU for my collection!

When was the last time YOU updated your system to Windows 3.0? It comes only in 4x 3 1/2“ discs, but why did I have to switch discs like 15 times? I think the order was disc #1, then 2…3…4…1…3…4…2…3…4…2…1…3…2…WTF?

This #weekend, I tested several 80486 systems, benchmarked ISA vs VLB, overclocked CPUs, and played DOOM, Xwing, and Dune II. What about you? #RetroPC #RetroGaming #HP #Kobil

#RetroPC I never had a 386 system… so I picked one from the scrap yard! Unfortunately, the #ESCOM vintage computer is in a very poor condition (and I don’t mean the yellowing of the drives). Heavy battery leakage spread to the memory and even ISA slots. Will this ever work

Time to prepare for some vintage PC setups. Today, new CF cards and CF card readers came in. Keep your fingers crossed everything works!
