Private landowners in South Africa conserve >40% of the world's remaining white rhinos. Our new paper in Conservation Letters highlights their diverse responses to the poaching crisis, with some owners disinvesting and others actively investing in the species doi.org/10.1111/conl.1…

Great work and persistence on leading this valuable and timely paper Hubert Cheung . TCM needs to be engaged respectfully, on its own terms, to achieve lasting conservation outcomes

For comparison to the Aspinall Foundation's appeal for £1 million to 'rewild' 13 elephants, here is Ruaha Big Cats 2019 costs. Spent ~1/3 as much, but benefited >40,000 people, reduced conflict & improved conservation in a critical area. Conservation should not be a PR exercise.

The murder of Timbavati Head Ranger, Anton Mzimba, is an outrage. He was a man of enormous courage and principle. His work combating wildlife gangsters made him a target in his own community, yet he refused to run to safety, when he could have, he stayed with the people he loved.
