Bob Huggins 💎: “Today’s players don’t play the right way because they don’t play on the blacktop w/ older guys. You’d take a bad shot, wouldn’t play defense, wouldn’t play hard, you wouldn’t get picked. There’s nothing worse than sitting out in the hot sun and not being picked”

Great Coaches: Know their players Respect their players Teach & challenge their players Listen to their players Inspire their players Support their players Fight for their players Give roles to their players Serve their players Love their players Hold their players accountable

Sports Roles: Coach-you coach the team Player-you play the game Referee-you officiate the game Spectator-you watch the game & cheer for your team Some parents need to take a step back; your kids won’t play forever. Just sit back, be proud, enjoy these moments & know your role.

Parents: The influence you have on your child is infinite. One conversation or snide comment can ruin the substance of your child’s team. A team sport needs each player to support the team effort. Don’t tear that down. Support the entire team & let the coaches handle the coaching

Players: Learn to control what you can control. When things aren’t going well for you, can you put that aside, maintain great body language & still help your team WIN? Call it mental toughness, maturity, being a great teammate or unselfishness. It’s the ultimate life lesson.

This is the time of year in Coaching that you are either thinking about: 1. Play-offs, because things are going well. 🙂 2. Next year, because young players, poor record now. 🤔 3. Retiring. It's not going well & you're just plain tired. 😟 Hang in there, finish strong!🧑‍🦯🚶🏃‍♂️

Parents: As hard as it is sometimes, you have to remember that your job is to support your child. Shouting advice/instructions from the stands only undermines coaches. They don’t need that nor do they want it. Cheer for your child & team, but leave the coaching to the coaches!

So way back I used to have an old tweet of my “Shooting Challenges” document…I figured I’d share it again! It’s a mix of my own & ones I’ve gotten from other coaches Disclaimer: You ask anyone I used to train they’d say my “Conditioning 3’s” was their favorite 😉
