Used to listen to him years ago. Heard a young GCT preach and it was astounding. But an older GCT exuded gravitas beyond words. He was indeed The Prince of Preachers!!

Every time we think we have found the key to the strange mystery of living, a new situation enters the field of experience and baffles our supposed solutions.

We may think life’s answer is pleasure, but in our soberest moments we know that while pleasure may be the sauce of life, it can never be the meat.

Pray whenever whatever happens. Pray always, always. Not sometimes, but pray always. If Jesus is our example, then we have a mighty lesson in prayer because he prayed in bright days and dark nights.

The Christian has a way out when trouble comes. The first thing a Christian ought to remember is that GOD has a plan. You may not understand it clearly, but GOD has a plan.

We find out when trouble comes how the LORD’s light will shine on our pathways. We find out in the storms that he is our refuge and our hiding place in the tempest.

Hope keeps saying when we are climbing high mountains that the road levels ahead. Hope can make hospital beds bearable and prison bars endurable. In the darkest valleys and along the bitterest journeys, hope keeps saying press on.

Soon this storm will be passing over. Soon this moment of terror will flee away like the dew before the summer’s sun. Soon the madness of this period will slip away. #FaithOverFear #COVIDー19

“You say that you want great power to move among people’s heartstrings. You cannot have that without great sorrow. God can fill only the place that has been emptied of the joys of this life.

“You will never come into your full capacity as a minister until you have been broken somehow.”

The connection between pain and power is paradoxical. In being emptied, we are filled, and in being broken we are made whole.

The capacity to enter into human pain either by choice or by necessity is one of the ways that a person’s ministry finds authenticity and authority.

You will never preach to their hearts until at some place, some solemn appointment has fallen upon your own life and you have wept bitter tears and gone through your own Gethsemane and climbed your own Calvary.

“It is not in the tone of the voice; it is not in the eloquence of the preacher; it is not in the gracefulness of his gestures; it is not in the magnificence of his congregation; it is in a heart broken and put together again by the eternal God.

When we push Jesus out of the sermon, people end up saying with Mary Magdalene: They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.

Preaching which is not biblical is not Christian—maybe motivational, popular perhaps; Christian, no!

In all of the ups and downs of church ministry, “the risings and fallings and shifting and changing of our own existence,” remember that Jesus is still worth our devotion, passion, and affection not only in preaching, but also in every area of life.

Preaching ought to be like Jacob’s ladder, a combination of earth and sky. The bottom is the earth, but there ought to be a disappearance in the clouds.

Oh surely,the road may get rough,but press on.Friends may get few,but press on.Dull days may dawn,dark clouds may hover,but press on!!

I would stress that we are not spared troubles and trials, but we are protected and preserved in the midst of them.
