A2: Finding things - individuals set up vast hierarchies (e.g. webpages, sharepoint, Teams, VLEs) which make logical sense to themselves but are hard for another person to remember or guess at. Thus staff and students spend ages looking for things in the wrong place #LTHEchat

A2: apps that don't let you cut and paste images in, so you have to save the image to a directory first and then link to the image - some apps have solved this #LTHEchat

A3: That it's a bad idea (so mean to screenreaders) to paste a url into a document, and instead use descriptive words which link to the location #LTHEchat

A4: It's not my specific remit though part of my wider digital role. Problem is that it adds extra time that people don't have, so really needs to be built in from start & workloaded. #LTHEchat

A3&4: My uni had some great accessibility workshops: everything from pdfs to images, but seen as minority interest (aimed at people writing one-off public-facing not continuous student-facing), took time to attend and more to implement #LTHEchat

This chat makes me realise that I know a fair bit about making things accessible but have not seen what it's like for the user in terms of what it enables. Might motivate more people to work on accessibility if they could see the consequences #LTHEchat

A5: I don't know. It's a good question. Mainly through individuals complaining if we don't do it, probably :-( Our learning analytics don't tell us if someone is using a screenreader or switching on captions etc., though we might wonder why some resources aren't used #LTHEchat

A5: For our online materials we have a dedicated quality checking service which checks accessibility. For VLE there is a built in check which can be ignored. Checklists of good practice which is audited. But no idea if it is all worth it!

Doctors, like most of us, could benefit from learning more statistical reasoning. They vastly overestimate the odds of disease before testing, and continue to do so after both positive & negative test results! It held for all diseases, from cancer to UTIs jamanetwork.com/journals/jamai…

Message from Kim McGuinness and leaders of 7 North East councils: The region is open for business this weekend, despite threat of more protests. “Everyone has a part to play in ensuring calm and peace prevail." Urging people to avoid sharing unfounded social media rumours.
