If state policies were really about the #scienceofreading, closing #opportunitygaps or what is right for kids they would invest in #infrastructure that creates optimal conditions for learning. Curriculum adoption BANDAIDS just show schools are fronts for corporate greed.

Board of Education 2-15-24 youtube.com/live/lg9U6YjOU… via YouTube Everyone in CT should watch this Cheshire BOE meeting, where Representative Curry speaks to the misguided efforts of the CSDE in their implementation of the Right to Read legislation.

mrbans Tiffany Peltier, Ph.D.🌸 Mrs. K Emily Hanford Then let’s push for PD. Without it, nothing works. We ran a scale up last year with 80 schools and found no differences in ELA outcomes according to curriculum used (Wonders, EL etc) but the amount of PD provided mattered. PD in effective practices is the bigger lever

Anyone is free to admit error and start again. NAEP has been flat for 30 years. If, how, and how much phonics has been taught has NOT been monolithic. And tests scores are impacted by OOS factors at 60+% with teacher impact between 1-14% inspire.ehe.osu.edu/2024/04/03/deb… 1/2

Hard Words/Sold a Story dramatically misrepresented reading scores and reading instruction, but the sensationalism has created very bad reading legislation that is also overly simplistic. Neither the previous status quo nor the SOR fad is acceptable 2/2

Also education as a field & those outside the field have an idealistic to delusional view of instruction & curriculum (& assessment, frankly). This obsession with "high quality" or the "right" instruction/curriculum/test is part of the reform problem At best those are secondary

Appreciate the acknowledgment - and concern- that SOR is not a program, but rather a body of research about the methods for effective reading instruction. I am hopeful that the door is opening for a more collaborative conversation. apmreports.org/episode/2024/0…

There is no one program that can provide all things to all students. Teachers need ongoing professional learning to build their capacity to meet the needs of the students in front of them. community.theeducatorcollaborative.com/protecting-goo…

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez at the DNC. “I, for one, am tired of hearing about how a two bit union buster thinks of himself as more of a patriot than the woman who fights every single day to lift working people out from under the boots of greed trampling on our way of life.”
