The UK govt is considering removing the cap on bankers' bonuses: necessary they say to attract/retain scarce & superior ‘talent.’ Maybe. But impressions of both help financial/professional elites justify bumper pay packets and a (phoney) ‘war for talent’ is one way they do it.
