It makes great sense to mitigate the economic loss and social costs occasioned by Brexit. Growth driven improvements to public revenues are essential for re building the country. Closer ties with Europe are an obvious mechanism. Sooner not later. theguardian.com/politics/2024/…

DNA studies based on population genetics may be able to assign components of ancestral origin with varying degrees of accuracy depending on the circumstances but place of birth requires other evidence. How is “ origin” defined and by whom? theguardian.com/world/2024/oct…

Once again, I am not expressing an opinion about this case. However, if there are compelling methodological and evidentiary questions, they require expert deliberation. theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/o…

Thoughts from Leonard Bernstein (d otd 1990): "It is the artists of the world, the feelers and the thinkers who will ultimately save us; who can articulate, educate, defy, insist, sing and shout the big dreams." "Life without music is meaningless, music without life is academic."

Disability, aged care, employment services, hospitals, childcare, prisons, the list goes on. We now have overwhelming evidence over decades. Every time governments use taxpayer money to privatise public social care, taxpayers are ripped off & consumers are worse off.

Truly great recordings are rarities but Steven Isserlis’ “ Music of the Angels” is of them. There is a filigree like celestial delicacy to his playing underpinned by the gravitas of cogent musical argument. Boccherini has rarely had such persuasive advocacy. A must hear.

My mother sent this to our family in the USA : “ Many of my generation witnessed the Second World War at close quarters. We know what fascism is. America IS a great country. Vote for democracy not for demagogues”.
