🚨 UHB locum rate cuts U TURN 🚨 University Hospitals Birmingham have reversed all cuts to doctors extra contractual work rates. The BMA have suspended the dispute. We have shown trusts up and down the country the power of our collective action as doctors. What a WIN for our members ‼️

Doctors are not psychics. We cannot magically detect if a patient has been coerced or pressured into a decision. There are no safeguards in the Assited Dying Bill. Just platitudes and bureaucracy.

Resident Doctors of the West Midlands, 📢 Big update! Yesterday, your Regional Resident Doctors’ Committee officers took action. We wrote to every trust in the region, setting out exactly what we expect from employers to fulfill their obligations on backpay for the pay deal.

Thank you Arthur Li for drawing attention to this rational guidance. People are wilfully mistinterpreting scope of practice to mean any HCP has carte blanche. They do not. A medical degree is a pre-requisite to practise medicine.

I witnessed a PA cause a life-threatening tension pneumothorax, which they were unable to recognise or manage. The patient almost died.

Perhaps the worse document to be unearthed so far is the risk stratification done by HEE in 2017 which detailed a high risk of harm to patients Were I a betting man I could suggest why this was only looked into once!!

Case in point. Pulmonary oedema is a clinical syndrome rather than a complete diagnosis. If you have it, you want to be assessed by someone who knows the difference, and can diagnose and treat the underlying cause which can be manifold i.e. someone with a medical degree.
