#SOTSvoyage, day 1: After many delays and some engine issues that needed fixing, the #RVInvestigator finally left the Hobart this morning! Excited to be in board to get some science done before I leave Australia for NZ. Stay tuned for updates!

#SOTSvoyage, day 2: still steaming south on the #RVInvestigator! Looks like we'll avoid the storm over SE Tassie. Talking of weather - I got to let go a weather balloon today! Yay, science! Pic: K. Baker

Huge week for the Drifters this week! Dr. Svenja Halfter and Katy Baker set sail on the #rvinvestigator as part of the SOTS: automated moorings for climate and carbon cycle studies in the Southern Ocean voyage. We wish them smooth sailing and hope they have a successful trip!

#SOTSvoyage, day 3: We arrived at the Integrated Marine Observing System SOTS (Southern Ocean Time Series) site! Sensors and sediment traps have been out here for more than a year to collect important data on how the #SouthernOcean is impacted by #climatechange. #RVInvestigator

ID help! Who knows this species of jelly? Very small and found in coastal New Zealand in summer. Got lots of them in my sample! @GerlienVerhaeg @JellyfishVibes Jessica Schaub

Are you interested in the pathways krill take as they are washed around Antarctica, and how that may change in the future? New #PhD project at IMAS with me and Abigail JR Smith utas.edu.au/research/degre…

I gave a short interview on my work on zooplankton🦐 and how they help us store carbon in the ocean 🌊 and fight #climatechange! 🥳 Also featured: McLane Research Labs sediment traps that collect sinking particles as part of the Integrated Marine Observing System Southern Ocean Time Series! I presented my first poster of my PhD the other week at the Australian Antarctic Program Partnership annual workshop. I have attached a picture of it here if anyone is interested in what the DriftersLab have been up to this year

👏 Congrats to AAPP/IMAS PhD student Pimnara ‘Nia’ Riengchan on landing an award from the Holsworth Wildlife Research Endowment. Nia studies how ocean acidification affects the shell-building of planktonic sea snails (pteropods) in the Southern Ocean. ecolsoc.org.au/awards/holswor…
