It's unexpectedly emotional to hold a physical copy of your (🥳passed without corrections🥳) PhD thesis... ... I might not have had the degree conferred yet, but it's almost time to celebrate these beautiful objects with my HDR colleagues University of Tasmania passed(😜) and present 🍻

My review of Conal Condren's 'Between Laughter and Satire: Aspects of the Historical Study of Humour' has been accepted by the European Journal of Humour Research... 😀 ...thanks to Dr Beatriz Carbajal-Carrera, ahsenkurekci, and the EJHR, for their support while I've been writing it!

It's been a great start to #AMSN6 being hosted here University of Tasmania on a delightful day here in Hobart...

Super excited to share that my public address during my fellowship at University of Tasmania is now available as an essay. To cite it: The Writer as an Agent of Change. (2024). Well this was very pleasant... Thanks to everyone English at UTAS who helped me celebrate, in person or in spirit, and congratulations to Dr Dr Philippa Moore and my fellow graduates!

What's so funny about #LastOneLaughing? My first article for The Conversation - Australia + New Zealand: theories of humour, definitions of comedy, and why Lou Sanders didn't even get to her set-up line 🤣 Appropriately for a programme with Jimmy Carr, there's a Czech involved theconversation.com/were-hardwired…

Who doesn't love to have jokes explained to them? Thanks to the Honours students English at UTAS, who are enjoying the extended, twelve week version...

Just seen that The New Daily has picked up my article, and I do like the wording of their front page link! thenewdaily.com.au/life/entertain…

he most read Arts+Culture article on The Conversation - Australia + New Zealand from University of Tasmania over 2025 YTD 🙂 The most read article from University of Tasmania from any section over the past week 😀 10,000+ reads since Tuesday 😂 Not bad for a first article 🤣 theconversation.com/were-hardwired…

Looking forward to chatting with Helen Earth on ABC Hobart at about 21:10 tonight, about why things - like #LastOneLaughing - are quite so funny... 😂 youtu.be/-HeAAhlNNgw?si…

This month's streaming recommendations The Conversation - Australia + New Zealand - including Last One Laughing UK, which is *specifically* designed to demonstrate competing theories of humour 😂 (Odd bonus fact: the French version begins with a clip from the Australian 🤷) theconversation.com/feuding-mob-fa…
