Imagine for a moment that you asked Western air forces to come up with a plan to destroy tens of Ru strategic bombers. How many offensive forces wd they require & how much wd it cost? Demonstrates again that Ukr deep strike can still do impressive things even without US intel.

Russia refused Ukraine’s offer of total or air ceasefire. Trump refused Ukraine’s request for air defenses and declined to sanction Russia for murderous missile attacks on Ukrainian cities. Ukraine took out the planes used for these missile attacks. Simple.

Russia just lost an unknown number of strategic aircraft that are directly tied to validity of their nuclear deterrent. We don't know if this was four or 40 aircraft. The strategic nature of the effects of this attack puts it into uncharted territory. And YES, these aircraft...

are dual use conventional/nuclear platforms. And they have rained destruction on Ukraine from afar as cruise missile carriers. But this is not about them being legitimate targets (clearly they are) it's about this attack bleeding into potentially a major degradation in the most

Ukraine did not notify the Trump administration of the attack in advance, a Ukrainian official said. A U.S. official confirms that the Trump administration wasn't aware of the attack in advance axios.com/2025/06/01/ukr…

No surprise. There is no way on earth that this or any other administration would sanction, encourage or enable a large-scale attack on Russian nuclear delivery systems. Recall that the May 2024 strikes on Russian early warning radar caused signifiant concern in Washington.

It’s enough to make one wonder whether Russia’s legitimate security interests might have been better served by NOT launching this war.

The wake up call should have been the UAV strike on Khmeimim airbase in 2018 that destroyed or damaged several Russian aircraft. Russia upgraded the HESCO-type barriers for hangars there but didn't do so at their airbases in Russia. x.com/RALee85/status…

The US proposal to Iran over the weekend is serious & pragmatic: limited enrichment, intrusive inspections & real safeguards. Trump is close to a historic breakthrough. He shouldn’t let the war-hungry hawks derail it. The ball is now in Tehran’s court. axios.com/2025/06/02/ira…

Oh well that sounds reasonable. Weird that I was assured that Ukrainian flexibility in negotiations would be rewarded. I seem to recall being told in no uncertain terms that Ukrainian intransigence was the main obstacle to peace.

Trump's offer to Iran, as reported by Barak Ravid, is a dollar-store-JCPOA. The JCPOA -- which Trump abandoned -- had all of these provisions, usually in ways that were stronger or more carefully constructed. He's trying to put Humpty Dumpty back together again. A thread.

The genius of the Pop Realist is to insist that we must take Russia seriously, but we absolutely must not take Russia literally.
