Kids who color code the edges of an assignment or rearrange their binder contents are working off anxiety. I can recognize that, but what do I do to support them while still insisting on high academic standards?

So Alan Gratz and a bunch of awesome teacher friends worked together to give each of my kids in 2 classes autographed copies of "Ground Zero." They were thrilled! "ALAN GRATZ SIGNED THIS FOR ME!" "This is a book I'm actually going to read!" "I've never had a signed book before!"

Reading "Ground Zero" and talking about history being made pushed me to share my Columbine experience with my kids. I don't talk about it much and definitely not to kids... but I needed to, today. Your story always matters to kids.
