Here’s an example of why WordPress matters. This is what is threatened by the current drama/hissy fit: people’s safety.

Here’s what I’m currently hearing from clients after Matt Mullenweg’s stunt yesterday with WP Engine. Yes they’re thinking about moving off WPE but if they do, they’re abandoning WordPress completely not taking the chance Matt throws another tantrum and blocks someone else

Except WP Engine isn’t litigating against WPorg. In fact, as far as we know, they’re not litigating against anyone yet. They sent a cease-and-desist to Automattic (not WPorg although the lines have been blurred by Matt)

If this actually happens and ACF is merged into WP Core, does that mean WP Engine gets credit for all the work that’s gone into it and Mullenwonka (h/t @wpdavidv for my favorite thing to come out of this) will finally sit down and shut up?

Amazing how using WordPress to describe your service is listed as acceptable on the trademark page “All other WordPress-related businesses or projects can use the WordPress name and logo to refer to and explain their services…” but Matt felt “attacked” so is throwing a tantrum

Except WordPress.org isn’t a party to the lawsuit except that it’s the personal property of Matt Mullenweg. The amount of bullshit from a company on life support after destroying its own community is shocking

This is like when an Uber or Lyft used to be $5 but that same trip is now $30+. We’ve been living in a VC subsidized world for quite a while now, but eventually that will change for AI just like it changed for ride shares.

Just crunched data on ~30k startup websites. VC-backed companies make very different platform choices than PE-funded or bootstrapped companies. Surprising results coming soon 👀

Looks like Mercury is down - on a holiday, on the first of the month. So glad that my inbox is filling up with "Your payment was declined errors" and there doesn't seem to be any clear update from Mercury about what's going on or when a fix will be pushed. So much for a holiday

If you promote a one-click Vercel deployment for your demo app, you should make sure it actually works + has good documentation. If your purpose is to show me what I can do with your API (i.e. why I should give you money), please make it easy for me to figure out if I should.

Believing AI that puts 99% of adults out of work will be sold for $20/month or given away for free is misunderstanding how markets work. $20/mo is a land grab price, not what it’s going to cost in 5 years. See Uber pricing. apple.news/AHQUjNFiiQbuMi…

That said, there is likely an economic reckoning on the horizon at the hands of AI. As more entry level white collar jobs can be automated away, it’s going to be necessary to look towards a neo-economic world that isn’t dependent on time for money.

Because I don’t have enough going on between work, grad school, and a SaaS side/school project, I’m also building a custom publishing app with Next.js Supabase and Vercel as a way to get to know my new town of Salem, MA. FreeSalem.com
