A first-of-its-kind program is teaching Indigenous women to take a lead role in protecting Australia's iconic coral reefs. Marian Faa joined them in Far North Queensland to find out how it's all going. #abc730

Staghorn Acropora. Yes, we know - they are just weedy pioneer species, fragile and easily broken and easily bleached and crown of thorns starfish eat it like candy - but damn, they are so beautiful, and we will take a reef covered in Stagover a reef covered in algae any day!

Despite a mass bleaching event being declared on the Great Barrier Reef there are still lots of places with minimal or no bleaching damage. Magnetic Island off Townsville is one such place. Images here from our survey of Geoffrey Bay yesterday. #reefalive
