Thank you Senator Ron Wyden! Your River Democracy Act will provide important protections for clean water and wildlife habitat, while expanding opportunities for outdoor recreation. #WildandScenic #OregonRivers

Beautiful day on the trail in the northern reaches of Crater Lake and the Boundary Springs. These are the headwaters of the Rogue River. A friend and I had the trail all to ourselves this morning.

Local business supporters & river enthusiasts across SW Oregon are a big reason Senator Ron Wyden was able to deliver a strong case for protecting the Wild Rogue and more of its watershed. This is good for wildlands and rural economies. Thank you, Ron Wyden & Senator Jeff Merkley!

Grateful to have friends and KS Wild contributors like Zachary Collier speaking up in our local Rogue Valley newspapers about supporting the River Democracy Act. Zach penned an excellent response to our representative, Cliff Bentz, who continues to mischaracterize the bill.

Big news as the #orleg session comes to a close this week. Kudos to my colleague josephvaile and to our partners at Wild Salmon Center, @oregonwild.bsky.social, and @PortlandAudubon for their leadership over the past two years on reforming Oregon's Forest Practices Act!

Most folks don't know that the Bureau of Land Management has oversight of 2 million acres of public forests in western Oregon, and because of the 1937 O&C Act, these forests remain some of the most vulnerable old-growth forests in the PNW. Proud of my colleagues for this win!

Brief, but worthwhile commentary this evening from News10 about out-dated sources of law enforcement funding for rural SW Oregon counties and the connection to old-growth logging of public forest lands.

I remember a couple of "Miracle Marches" over a decade ago when I lived in the Sierra foothills. Now Oregon has #AmazingApril. Keep it coming, please. ๐Ÿ˜

Follow Rogue Riverkeeper here and on other social/digital platforms for updates over the coming days on the latest with the impacts of the gas/fuel storage fire in Medford.

It isn't just the USDA Forest Service cutting old-growth. In western Oregon, BLM Oregon & Washington continues to log old-growth on Bureau of Land Management "O&C" forests. The Poor Windy project in So. Oregon will decimate old-growth near Sexton Summit and is on this list. kswild.org/action-alerts/โ€ฆ

My thermometer in Ashland at 6:00 pm read 109 degrees...It's been a hot week in southern Oregon and red flag warnings appear on the horizon for the weekend.

I have been watching Zeke Lunder ~ The Lookout for a couple years now and have always appreciated his work. This morning's video on the #McKinneyFire was extremely helpful and provides the kind of info our community needs and wants. Chip in a few bucks and support efforts like The Lookout.

I had a lot of fun, and laughs, rafting with Peter DeFazio and Cascadia Wildlands last week on the Rogue River. Feeling grateful to Peter and our partners supporting SW Oregon's rivers, the Wild Rogue bill (HR 7509), and the SW Oregon permanent mineral withdrawal (HR 980).

Big win this past week for Northern Spotted Owls and western Oregon's old-growth forests. A huge thank you goes out to coworkers at KS Wild and partners at Western Environmental Law Center, @oregonwild.bsky.social, and Cascadia Wildlands for defending public lands and wildlife in SW Oregon!

The Bear Grub timber sale in the Applegate Valley of SW Oregon is bad news for local communities & wildlife. The Bureau of Land Management is targeting older forests where Pacific fisher and other wildlife find refuge. Take action to help us stop this timber sale (again)!

Thanks to Senator Ron Wyden for reintroducing his Oregon Recreation Enhancement Act, which would support conservation and recreation across 200,000 acres of public lands in the Rogue, Illinois & North Fork Smith River watersheds in southwest Oregon. rvtrib.com/localstate/bilโ€ฆ

Today's panel by the Indigenous people of Red Mountain made it clear: there is no "green" or "just" transition without reforming the 1872 Mining Law.
