He makes for an interesting villain 'cuz he's unpredictable and impulsive...he's fun to watch in The Originals 'cuz he's overpowered and the family dynamics make him endearing (like when he cares for Hayley, or his daughter or his siblings) Although in TVD, I liked Elijah better.
