My least libertarian take is government should provide more guardrails to protect people from accidentally nuking their lives financially (studies routinely show people who sign up for payday loans, auto loans, etc straight up do not understand the math of what they sign up for)

A broader thought on the convoy attack. World Central Kitchen does remarkable, courageous work, in Gaza and elsewhere. But in Gaza it is part of a jerry-built and inadequate solution to a problem that only exists because powerful governments are uninterested in addressing its root cause.

There is a straightforward way to get sufficient aid into Gaza: for the wealthy state which controls all but one of Gaza's land-border crossings, and which is an occupying power in at least parts of the enclave, to take responsibility for delivering it.

The humanitarian funding situation for #Sudan, and for the regional refugee response, is dire. And a shortfall in funding from the US, routinely the largest donor, is part of the issue. USAID has not announced any FY24 HA funding yet; State has announced just $47M.
