Looking forward to speaking later today at #LCCT2023 on the nature of “things”. The whole event London Critical hosted by London Met promises to be a thoroughly stimulating few days.

Schools minister on R4 Today programme earlier: university courses to be measured on graduate skills and jobs. Repeated the point. Should it be that reductive? Does he count research and critical thinking as “skills”? Are universities purely suppliers for the job market?

David Littlefield (@dlittlefield100) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Indeed. Universities obviously supply and support the economy. But that is a long game. Life long learning, research, critical thinking, academic judgement… are all valuable skills and help in living a fulfilling life.

Can the U.K. just end this interminable political horror show and have a general election? An unelected PM. Now an unelected foreign secretary. This unwritten constitution is being abused far too much.

I have a question for GWR. Travelling regularly on the 1902 from Paddington to the west, the train has FAR more passengers than seats EVERY SINGLE TIME. When will GWR fix the system that charges too much for such poor service on these cattle trucks?

David Littlefield (@dlittlefield100) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Ok. I give in. Why is it that every day for weeks now I get a new follower or two- all new to twitter/X, all with hardly any followers, nothing on their biog, all young women, most posing and pouting for the camera. I don’t want these followers. Is it just me?

Hey Network Rail. Once again I sit on a delayed train because of flooding between Chippenham and Swindon. I know this stuff isn’t easy, but this happens EVERY SINGLE TIME after heavy rain. Put it on the to-do list, please.

My PhD viva went well this morning. Thanks to examiners Anne Massey and Andrew Smith for taking such a close interest in my work. And special thanks to Kate Jordan and Harry Charrington, my supervisors. And also to former colleagues at UWE where this long process began.

Hey GWR here’s a suggestion. How about turning the seat reservation lights on BEFORE you announce the platform at Paddington? That would avoid hundreds crowding on the train, taking seats and then chaos once the reservation lights come on.
