I built a new tool where you can experiment with DNS called Mess With DNS! It's at messwithdns.net. I made this with Marie LeBlanc Flanagan, and there's a blog post about how we built it here: jvns.ca/blog/2021/12/1…. Here's a gif:

Re-visiting localhost k8s dev options. K3d + Skaffold + Helm works really well, much better than my previous abomination of multiple Makefile targets.

I learn by new tech by creating small projects. The problem I have is knowing when to stop. They are often missing certain test cases, handling all known edge-cases, performance optimisations, etc. It feels unfinished but the goal was never to be perfect, it was to learn.

credit card chip machines are like: - DO NOT remove your card - DO NOT - hey look at me - DO NOT remove your card - take out your card immediately or I’m burning this place to the ground

Continuing my exploration of Go, Kubernetes, NATS and Cassandra: I built a sitemapper CLI tool & extended this to work as a distributed crawl engine using Kubernetes Jobs. Part 1: dinofizzotti.com/blog/2022-01-0… Part 2: dinofizzotti.com/blog/2022-01-0… #go #kubernetes #cassandra #astradb #nats

Want to know the secret to blogging more often? Lower your standards! A post which you don't think is ready yet is a LOT better than a giant folder full of drafts that no-one ever gets to see (Your readers won't ever know how good the thing you wanted to write would have been)

What happens when you make an http request in #go? res, _ := http.Get("example.org") io.Copy(io.Discard, res.Body) Below is a sneak peak my new function call tracer for Go🕵🏻‍♂️. Note time spent on TLS / Cert Loading. Visualizer is Perfetto UI.

What many sw engineers don't realize: The majority of jobs do not hire you to write the highest quality code or produce the cleanest architecture. They hire you to solve their business problems very efficiently. Sometimes this means high-quality code. Sometimes not at all.

An update to an earlier 2019 post, I have created a walk-through on how to setup and run a man-in-the-middle proxy on a Raspberry Pi 4 (not too many differences, most things have stayed the same thankfully). lnkd.in/eYHvEqwU

My mother started this quilt 20 years ago, and just finished it today. I can't imagine spending 2 decades working on one project like this. I remember boxes of fabric strewn about like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. She had a vision. It's extraordinary.

This is us giving you permission to never tidy your workbench. Alex made the mistake of trying to be neater and now she can't find anything.

I have a barcode debugging story. I was working at tier-1 supplier to an auto maker. Our customer started complaining that they couldn't read some of the labels on parts we were sending them. Can you see the problem?
