1- I read the first newsletter of the newly founded Jewish Council of Australia. Wishing the best to this timely founded organisation. This organisation was very much needed to prevent the rise of anti-Semitism in this political climate. jewishcouncil.com.au/who-we-are

2- Muslims have been carrying the burden of violence committed by terrorists using the name of Islam for their political ideologies. Jews should not go through the same experience, they should not carry the burden of violence committed by violent extremists…

3- … and the shame of those supporting it by using the name Jewish for their political interests. Wishing a blessed #Ramadan, #Easter and #Shabbat and wishing the increase of our collective prayers for peace in these days…

#ThinkTwice and #ThinkWise! 1- I am deeply concerned and worried about the #stabbing of a bishop and priest at the #AssyrianChurch two days ago. Such incidents deeply shake the sense of security within all #FaithCommunities.

Derya Iner (@deryainer) 's Twitter Profile Photo

2- I can imagine how anxious the #ChristianCommunities must feel while attending a sermon this weekend. My thoughts and prayers are with the church communities and all faith communities.

3- Labeling it a #terroristattack at an early stage also heightened the #anxiety and #fear within the Muslim community under the current climate. Too many rumors about attacks on #hijabiwomen and #mosques were shared yesterday on social media and WhatsApp.

4- For the first time in my life, I saw my teenager son so anxious that he called me to come back from a visit and take them back home, where it may not be a center of target due to the scarcity of Muslim population and mosques in our neighborhood.

Derya Iner (@deryainer) 's Twitter Profile Photo

5- My son made me cut my visit short hastily and drive them back home. He also made sure that I wore a hoodie to cover my scarf so that we would not be a target while driving home last night. While trying to handle his anxiety.

6- I normally do not share my personal stories here, but I felt obliged to showcase the level of #anxiety, #fear, and #unrest the stabbing incident and its premature labeling as a terrorist attack (without any thorough investigation).

7- #Socialcohesion, feeling #safe and #secure is an essential need for every single member of our society. Therefore, diligent and discreet action by media, social media, officials as well as the members of all communites (#Muslim, #Christian, #Jewish) is urgently needed!

8- So, #ThinkTwice and #ThinkWise before taking any action, sharing any information or uttering any word in these troubling times... #hate #Islamophobia #antiSemitism #ReligiousDiscrimination

#HusnuAsk of Sheikh Galib (18th c) My tongue is silenced by grief profound, Like Galib, in exhaustion, I'm bound. The plea I sent lies still unfound, Now, only one faint hope circles around. Is fairness but a name there, nowhere to be found?

#HusnuAsk of Sheikh Galib (18th c)

My tongue is silenced by grief profound,
Like Galib, in exhaustion, I'm bound.
The plea I sent lies still unfound,
Now, only one faint hope circles around.
Is fairness but a name there, nowhere to be found?

The untangling grief silences the layman and lets the poet speak out. Here is the original: Dil hayret-i gamla lâl kaldı Gâlib gibi bî-mecâl kaldı Gönderdiğim arz-ı hâl kaldı El-ân bir ihtimâl kaldı İnsâfın o yerde nâmı yok mu #HusnuAsk of Sheik #Galib (18th century)

Thanks to my colleagues Mareike Riedel and @AmiraAftab from Macquarie Law School for inviting me to deliver the keynote. I discussed the implications of #racial and #religious discrimination laws in Australia, and the practicality of a unified framework like #dehumanisation.
