Thanks BBC News (UK) South for featuring experiences of economic abuse survivors last night. If the gov is going to halve VAWG, they must prevent abusers weaponising joint finances, like mortgages, to trap survivors & cause a lifetime of harm. Surviving Economic Abuse bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episod…

Coercive control is the at the core root of domestic abuse, including financial abuse. This type of abuse has a massive impact, especially when the survivor is no longer with the perpetrator. We absolutely need to talk about this more Surviving Economic Abuse πŸ’œ bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Another article from BBC News (UK) showing how abusers use joint mortgages to coerce & control survivors long after separation, making it impossible to become safe & rebuild their lives. Gov must take action & set up an economic abuse task force. bbc.com/news/articles/…

It’s good the Prime Minister has promised to make sure domestic abuse survivors have a safe and secure home. This must include preventing abusers misusing joint mortgages so survivors don’t end up homeless. Tackling economic abuse must be part of its mission to halve VAWG #LPC24

Great to join Resolution for the launch of this impactful report and to hear the recognition given to Surviving Economic Abuse for our work on #economicabuse. Lots to do to address how financial remedy proceedings are being weaponised by perpetrators.

A huge thank you to Matthew Patrick MP for raising the issue of economic abuse yesterday in the House of Commons. The government must ensure that economic abuse is at the heart of their strategy to halve violence against women and girls.
