I see a lot of people - on both "sides" - making simple mistakes about masks. I've studied PPE, taught PPE, and overseen PPE programs, including teams implementing fit testing in hospitals, long before covid. A thread

I believe this is one of the most important articles written this entire pandemic It hits on a topic that is central to our failed pandemic response Public Health is not just a lot of Medicine stacked up. Medicine can even be anti-public health 1/ nytimes.com/2022/01/14/opi…

Bari Weiss (who edited my first NYT piece ever, in all transparency) is “done with Covid.” Splendid! However, let’s be data driven. The nation’s healthcare system is not. So please take a tour of some hospitals before you say mitigation doesn’t matter anymore.

A micro-linguistics lesson: Pandemic, epidemic, & endemic are words for diseases in populations, so they all contain “demic” which means people (like “demographics”). Pan- means all Epi- means upon En- means within En-demic. Not End-emic. Within the people. Always a problem.

OK, Dr Ellie Murray, ScD taught me there ain't nothing wrong with using Twitter to bring eyes to your pubs for citation metrics--so someone PLEASE cite this awesome paper on MCI and scams by Dr. S. Duke Han so my h-index moves to the next tens digit! #aint2proud2beg pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26519434/

Please watch this short National Association of Health Care Assistants film on the experiences of certified nurse aides working in nursing homes during the pandemic. Very powerful! Thanks Lori Porter for putting this together youtube.com/watch?v=aonYq-…

Not enough people know: NYC is now offering *free, same-day home delivery* of paxlovid (new, effective anti-viral pill). If you test pos, especially if you're hi-risk, ask your doc about this treatment. If you don't have a doc call 212-COVID19. And for now we have good supply.

In grad school, I remember thinking that if people understood how inextricably linked our health is with our neighbor's health, then maybe they would see the need for universal Healthcare. I never thought we'd be caring enough to do it bc it was the right thing to do,

Many people on all sides of the masks “debate” need to spend time learning what a ‘cause’ is (and what a cause isnt!). Highly recommend Rani Lill Anjum & @SDMumford’s A Very Short Intro, but if even that is too long for you I summarized it here👇🏼 medium.com/@EpiEllie/what…

So this was in my drafts folder: If they overturn #RoeVsWade while I’m on set filming Handmaid’s Tale, it will be the biggest, least satisfying I told you so ever.
