Great piece here by Emma G. Fitzsimmons but would be wrong to say poverty rose during Adams tenure by comparing 2019 and 2024, when Adams came into office post-pandemic in 2021. We can definitely say “poverty did not fall” because the rate in 2021 and 2024 is the same: 18%.

JUST IN: The U.S. economy added only 50,000 jobs in December and a meager 584,000 jobs in all of 2025. That’s the worst year for job gains outside of a recession since 2003. And nearly 85% of the job gains happened by April. There was little hiring the rest of the year.

Really like this chart on *chronic under-budgeting* from Mark D. Levine that advocates and watchdogs have been complaining about for years, especially when it comes to housing supports programs.

This report from the Cato Institute is worth reading. They separately evaluate the effects of all immigrants, low-skill immigrants and illegal immigrants. In each case, the fiscal effect is *beneficial*. There are reasons for limiting immigration and making sure its legal.

Great new research out from Searchlight Institute on a tool that can help make child care affordable in the U.S with a simple fix, let child care centers open above ground!

Exactly what I have been working on recently. How do you meet work requirement if there is not much work to go around? #OBBBA

This is perhaps the City being careful given the federal headwinds. Our estimates, which countered voucher costs against savings from avoided shelter stays, found a much smaller tab of $3b over 5 years. And that’s not even including the human cost cssny.org/news/entry/to-…
