Use a comma before coordinating conjunctions (and, but, for, or, nor, so, yet) whenever the conjunction links two independent clauses (a clause that contains a subject and verb and can stand alone as a sentence). #writetip #grammar

"It's beautiful." "We have to go!" "See how the fire illuminates the buildings before they catch? What exquisite shadows." "The city is burning. We'll be killed if we're caught. We don't have time!" "The quality of the light is the only good thing about tonight. Don't waste it."

This was something I struggled with for a long time. I find it helps to keep the scope of the story in mind and cut out anything that distracts from that. Not the stuff that can embellish or contribute, but the stuff you love for its own sake even though it hurts the story.
