"Patients must know who is treating them and the skills and abilities that clinician has." Today, we have published new guidance on the scope of responsibilities for Medical Associate Professionals (MAPs). Read more here: bma.org.uk/bma-media-cent…

Ozzy's Kebab Shop None. Follow it through though. Salaried GPs will now be able to say no to supporting this even if the GP partners suggest it should happen. That is going to be tricky.

Finals started today and we had to do our OSCE whilst people were trying not to cry after getting sent to foundation deaneries at the bottom of their list. As grads, some have spouses, houses and babies that UKFPO don’t count as a reason to consider for mitigation. An awful day

Were #PAs ever really needed or did we, back in 2015 and before just need more doctors? Assistants, yes, associates, no. If the Royal College of Physicians had listened then, we might be in a better place now in UK medicine 3/9

Feel sorry for the current generation of doctors going through training, remunerated poorer than ever, saddled with debt, fees left, right and centre, bottlenecks to somehow get through (or leave) and treated as collateral in the pandemic 5/x

Fab to see this RCPCH response to the DFE guidance for schools and colleges on gender-questioning children We, at GLADD, share much of the same concerns among possible breaches of The Equality Act & the potential distress the guidance may cause rcpch.ac.uk/resources/DFE-…

@IncogAssociate Neena Jha The BMA I worked with a Physicians Assistant 12 years ago. He described his job as being the perpetual F1. He assisted at ward round (similar to me as f1), and he did cannulas and bloods, prepped discharges, etc. Not degrading or belittling, his expectation; and what was needed.

A lot of the desire to humble doctors comes from how badly many have behaved in the past - people have been elitist and arrogant, and continue to be. However, expecting proper training, licensing, knowledge and experience is not elitist.

Shaun Lintern Repeatedly saying we don’t work evenings and weekends is the fastest way of pissing us all off, given many of us work 13 hour shifts, days and nights, across 7 days, work more hours routinely than a standard working week, plus all the extras we don’t get paid for.

GMC I think it is sheer madness for the GMC to champion a model of regulation for PAs in which the scope of practice is left up to local trusts. After all, the horrors of Mid-Staffs occurred when a cash-strapped trust tried to save money through understaffing - then covered it up.

🤯 Newly qualified doctors held in limbo due to oversubscribed postgraduate medical training 🤯 Postgraduate doctors unable to find jobs 🤯 Newly qualified GPs facing unemployment Can someone explain how can anyone say "There is enough work to go around for everyone"?

Ollie Burton (@ollieburtonmed) 's Twitter Profile Photo

If you're outraged by substitution of 'specialists', then logically you should also be outraged by substitution of your juniors. It seems that many aren't, and that can be telling. It should be about doctors as a whole, as a profession - not just your group.

It’s important to remember the quoted 20% figure includes the pay increase given to us by the tories. Without commitment to FPR, I’ll be voting no to this offer. Any deal that leaves an F1 being paid less than their assistant is unacceptable
