A sad loss. A vocal diversity campaigner for the TV industry. If only he could have seen the change we are all seeking in his lifetime.

Congratulations to Caroline Dinenage MP. Directors UK look forward to continuing to work with you and your committee on the HETV & film inquiry, and progressing recommendations for a Smart Fund and Freelance Commissioner to support creators.

Really useful discussion of the proposals for a Freelancer Commissioner to improve govt understanding of freelancers, and the introduction of a Smart Fund to compensate creators for the downloading and storage of their work on digital devices. Both policies Directors UK support

Raised with The Minister the importance of ensuring our freelance talent and storytellers are able to sustain careers so that they can further our soft power - a freelancer commissioner would help ensure a joined up approach in govt to support creative freelancers.

Panel done. Many topics discussed around freelancing - how govt & industry can better support freelancers - protecting royalties, a freelance commissioner, Smart Fund, the right to contracts at start of job, looking to international models of support for creative freelancers.

This is good news for British indy film, which is in much need of this boost. We also need to address the TV commissioning crisis impacting so many creators, & ensure that freelancers have better protections so that our creative industries can succeed and thrive. Directors UK

Victoria Morris (@vmorrisd_uk) 's Twitter Profile Photo

this is why royalties are so important. 50% of TV freelancers aren’t working due to drops in commissioning. royalty payments are a vital income to sustain through the down times. British films & TV are enjoyed around the world, let’s make sure creators share in that success

The Creative Industries are rightly recognised in the Government’s new Industrial Strategy as one of the key sectors for driving growth in the UK. Our screen sector brings enormous economic, social and cultural value and has the potential for so much more. (1/2)
