Greg Wright has given more of himself than perhaps you realise to campaigning for justice for those unwittingly caught up in the Loan Charge trap. We’ve admired his tenacity for the best part of a decade; one where previous ministers 🚫 us for asking tough Qs. Now, this 👇🏼

Co-chair Greg Smith MP raises the #McCannReview in the Budget debate. He points out that it wasn’t an independent review & that perpetrators of mis-selling still are let off, despite Ministers calling for this in opposition & that it’s unfair that big banks got far better terms.

From my archive. The Yorkshire Post 2019. The daughter of a man who died by suicide while facing #loancharge pleads with Government to scrap policy. At the time, 7 suicides had been linked with #loancharge. 11 suicides have now been linked with this terrible policy Loan Charge & Taxpayer Fairness APPG

We’ve written to the Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury Dan Tomlinson MP inviting him to a meeting to discuss the #McCannReview into #LoanCharge settlement terms & expressing real concerns that the Government has watered down the recommendations, preventing resolution for many.

In April, Ray McCann agreed to meet us once his report of #McCannReview into #LoanCharge settlement terms was published. We have a number of key questions & issues, including real concern that the Government has watered down the recommendations, preventing resolution for many.

Now we're in a position to claim tax back via our annual return, HMRC have cancelled it and we specifically had to ask HMRC to create one for us. Happy to take cash, not so happy to give it back. #loanchargescandal

LCAG welcomes meeting invitation from Exc. Sec. to Treasury Dan Tomlinson (Dan Tomlinson MP), if genuine discussion #McCannReview & potential changes, but if no intent to listen or adapt then meeting pointless. Responses to earlier letters also required. hmrcloancharge.info/wp-content/upl…

By doing this HMRC are removing any incentive to settle at all. Is this the aim? Why allow customers to settle on terms you're not happy with when you could possibly discourage them from doing so. It makes a mockery of the settlement process, the review and victims.

Cllr Simon Fawthrop Charlotte Gill TaxPayers' Alliance Iain Duncan Smith MP Chingford & Woodford Green David Davis MP As one HMRC denizen one said of the #LoanCharge: "Clever, isn't it? We win or we win." But it's tied up HMRC resources, caused significant losses compared to protecting revenues, and has failed to deter loan promoters or enablers due to a glaring lack of consequences to them

HMRC literally bankrupting victims at a cost to the state. What isn't covered here is the cost of looking after these victims in their advancing years as they become dependent on the state because HMRC have stolen everything from them.

It's a ridiculous circus of punishment to no end other than to win political points. MPs lack the power to stop them and yet happily hand over more power year on year. If you think you won't be next with some made up retroactive tax, you're kidding yourself. #loanchargescandal
