BIG! A bill passed in Hawaii to effectively convert 10,000's of illegal Airbnb's to local housing. Incredible work from Our HawaiÊ»i and Lahaina Strong. The winning strategy was uniting fire survivors, advocates, and unions – then going all out. hawaiinewsnow.com/2024/04/24/sho

Everyone is talking about the student protests. But *stunning* how little we've heard from student organizers themselves. We asked some to explain their aims and concerns. If you read one thing about the protests today, read this: lpeproject.org/blog/from-the-

As someone who grew up in poverty in rural Appalachia & then went to Duke, Hopkins, and Emory, let me remind you that a lot of poor kids go to private schools bc they offer full financial aid. I guarantee you protesters are not “all trust fund babies.” Also s/o to class traitors.

I went to Grants Pass, Oregon, a town of 40,000 people that’s about to re-write homelessness policy for the entire United States. I found a perfect encapsulation of our national crisis.

“It’s a huge win, and it wouldn’t have happened if not for tenant unions beating the drum for the past several years demanding that every dollar of federal financing and subsidies be conditioned on tenant protections,” said Tara Raghuveer, via Fran Quigley. commondreams.org/opinion/biden-

Without a plan on the rent, we don’t have a plan on inflation.

The rent is too damn high, and there are still shots the Biden admin needs to call. The most important and urgent: rent regs in all units financed with federally-backed loans. They can do this, and they should.

This is what Michael Savwoir, 1 of the union leaders for KC Tenants, told FOX4 News Kansas City: “Two billion dollars in taxpayers money, man, could do a hell of a lot to develop our community. The billionaires don’t finance my follies. Why should I finance theirs?'

KC TENANTS AND JACKSON COUNTY VOTERS SHUT DOWN THE STADIUM SALES TAX. The largest transfer of public funds to private enterprises in our region’s history, $2 billion over 40 years. The people took on the billionaires. The people won. Nothing is inevitable if we organize.

Thorough piece by Mark Dent for The Washington Post on the stadium sales tax. Tells the story of our leader Denise Brown, lifelong Royals fan, voting NO tomorrow.

'For opponents, the vote is about more than the stadiums. It’s about who Kansas City is for.'
