Every single municipality voted NO. Every county legislative district voted NO. Every city council district voted NO. Unanimous NO on the stadium sales tax.

Whole thread is worth a gander.

Walking around First Fridays & I'm even more proud of the work KC Tenants put into helping to maintain the culture of the crossroads district. This place is beautiful. The art, the people, the vibes. All perfect.

Lol I can't believe they tried to convince ppl this area was dead.

THE PEOPLE HAVE WON IN KANSAS CITY!

Folks in KC showed up to the polls and defeated a billionaire tax on their communities. 📣 A reminder to all of us that when we organize, we win! 💪🏽

KC voters rejected a sales tax that would’ve gone to the Chiefs & Royals stadium plans- part of what might be larger trend of Americans souring on public $ for private teams.

The future of the Chiefs in Kansas City was thrown into question Tuesday night when residents of Jackson County, Missouri, resoundingly voted down a sales tax measure that would have helped to fund major renovations to Arrowhead Stadium.

“Kansas City voters delivered a powerful blow against billionaire sports franchise owners, rejecting a 40-year stadium tax in a decisive vote for community interests and democratic values over corporate greed.” kansascitydefender.com/politics/kansa…

KC Tenants was clear from the start, all the way back to 2022. Paying for a billionaire’s gentrification fever dream was not inevitable, even though people across every spectrum told us to go after scraps “cause you can’t win against that kind of money.” We took on the challenge.

Voters have officially chosen not to give a $2 billion handout to the billionaire owners of the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals.

The owners wanted residents of Jackson County, home of KC, to pass a 40-year sales tax to pay for stadium improvements.

Voters rejected it 58%-42%.

Kansas City voters spoke and it’s our job to listen. This is a referendum in what we value. Kansas City voters said no public subsidies for private profits.

Jamila Michener argues that health justice is about building and breaking power. This vote was a beautiful example of how KC Tenants broke power. And their union is building power faster than you can see. There is hope.

Maybe the Royals/Chiefs would’ve been better off listening to the no side and what they had to say. They got absolutely smoked today by a county that has ALWAYS supported them.

This is what Michael Savwoir, 1 of the union leaders for KC Tenants, told FOX4 News Kansas City: “Two billion dollars in taxpayers money, man, could do a hell of a lot to develop our community. The billionaires don’t finance my follies. Why should I finance theirs?'

Pretty resounding loss for the Royals and Chiefs. It reveals a couple of things: Kansas City has always been naturally skeptical of big projects. The grassroots politics of the city (and of stadium subsidies) have shifted a lot. And the process way too sloppy to overcome both.

Despite lies, threats, and blatant racism, organizers powered through and WON the fight against BILLIONAIRES AND PROFITEERS!

So proud to be a Kansas Citian and grateful for the organizing of KC Tenants ❤️‍🔥

KC Tenants This is fantastic news. Billionaires can build their own stadiums. It’s their business, they should pay their own bills. Billionaires don’t need Welfare Checks.

This is what power looks like! Shout out to KC Tenants and Jackson County voters for preventing this sales tax to subsidize billionaire owners of the Kansas City Chiefs

We were outspent 50:1* and we won. Billionaires can’t buy Kansas City, billionaires can’t extort the people. Not with KC Tenants, the 10,000-member tenant union fighting back 😌
