The Humanities Faculty at Utrecht University is recruiting to 40 new Assistant Professor positions, including eight new jobs in Philosophy. (Feels unimaginable that a UK university could do this.) uu.nl/en/organisatio…

Two class ideas: 1. Intro to Philosophy via autobiography using Amelie Rorty's Many Faces of Philosophy (underrated collection) 2. 20th C Philosophy via just the APA John Dewey Lectures

If you were building a library that focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion, what’s two books that need to be there? ( think wide genre, not just creative nonfiction or sociology, etc )

My latest on design and justice! It is an expansive review with a wide range of audiences in mind including grad and undergrad students in STS, HCI, and Design. tinyurl.com/43dev3ap

What is a reading, activity, lecture, etc that you are most excited about this semester? Or if you’re not teaching, would be excited to implement?? For me, it would be using a scenario building deck of cards called “STS tarot” in the futures lab.

"With dignity-based practice, patients would also influence what evidence is generated in the first place. Gaps in clinicians’ knowledge inform research questions; and so should gaps in patients’ knowledge."

Looking for a good reading for undergrads on “what is STS” - this is basically their first exposure. Also looking for good readings sts-ish concepts such as categorization, human/animal/nature interactions, and other topics that would be relevant for undergrad research topics.

Other relevant stuff would be related to bias, race/technology, feminist approaches, disability (will of course assign Ashley Shew is not here.’s work on technoableism!), and any other concepts you think would be important for undergrads to be exposed to as they embark on research projects.

Like many of us, I wasn’t formally trained in STS, and just picked things up piecemeal and as needed as I went along, so it’s hard for me to rattle stuff off when it’s not in the areas I’ve been working. Any help on undergrad-accessible STS-y readings would be appreciated!

“In ethnographic research and in classroom conversations, we engage each other not to come up with definitive answers but to disrupt dominant ways of knowing and explode any notion that there is only one way to move through the world.”

Got a copy of proof’s of historian @bcwaterhouse’s _One Day I’ll Work for Myself: The Dream and Delusion That Conquered America_, which will be out in January. It’s a really great history of fantasies around small business and entrepreneurship since the 1970s.
