Our article examining the extent to which people with #hypermobility are at risk of Long COVID was just published in BMJ Public Health, an open access journal. bmjpublichealth.bmj.com/content/3/2/e0…

For decades, people with #MECFS faced stigma & little research funding. Now, NIH spotlights ME/CFS in its feature on mitochondria, a step toward recognition. Learn why this connection matters for ME/CFS, #LongCOVID & related conditions. Read today's blog: bit.ly/4mjda8g

How quickly #mRNA degrades is linked to autoimmune disease risk! ➡️ We usually think of gene activity in terms of how much mRNA is produced. But a new study shows another key factor: how fast mRNA degrades. 1/

1) Had a look at this recent paper in BMJ Public Health that reports that generalized joint hypermobility (GJH) is a risk factor for Long Covid. Some critical comments 🧵

Now out - I have a chapter with the late Gemma Carey on the social impacts of #LongCovid. Let’s hope many medical and healthcare professionals and educators learn from this important volume

This reflects my own experience (I do circa 130 hours of care the average week), but somehow I still found this shocking. Carers for v severe ME carry HUGE responsibility, with little to no support. The support we have often comes at a cost, which adds financial pressure 🤯

I don't think people even vaguely understand how profoundly serious this is. It's ironic that while we were thinking that it was the COâ‚‚ in the atmosphere that was going to doom us, it could actually be the COâ‚‚ in the water. đź‘€

Poor science literacy among the general public is a major problem. In a large U.S. national survey, only 64% of Americans understood the statistical concept of probability, only 51% correctly defined a scientific experiment, and only 23% were able to correctly describe the

Great vid - I actually wasn’t aware of researcher Maureen Hanson’s personal connection to ME/CFS. Sadly, most researchers only get into the field when there’s some kind of personal link. We have to wait 4 great scientists or their kids 2get sick - what a horrible thing to say.
