What would you do if your deputy principal announced they were cancelling school holidays? 😮 Watch how these Port Hacking High School students react to being told they will have one continuous term... starting 1 April. 🤣 #AprilFools #LoveWhereYouLearn

My third article for Agora HTAV. My main points are: (1) The state requirement to teach intercultural capability requires teaching diverse content, more diverse than is actually specified in the state curriculum. 🧵1/7

Steve Hare tetheredtoed Kyle D There is a misunderstanding about why automaticity matters. The difference between automatically retrieving 4x8 in one second and efficiently skip-counting in two seconds is much more than the second it took. The most relevant efficiency is cognitive resources, not time.

Merlin Donald's 3-stage theory of humankind's intellectual development offers a better explanation of 'less conscious' learning than Geary's bio prim. knowledge. And, in my opinion, a better stab at converting, through explanation, learning style believers than studies + mockery.

🧵 1️⃣ When my in-laws booked their flight to Berlin (which would be their first trip abroad), my husband and I told them, “We can get a cheap flight or train ticket to almost anywhere. Where in Europe would you like to go?” Without hesitating, my father-in-law said, “Lorraine.”

The main purpose of my sarcastic diagram has always been to highlight double standards. If you dismiss fairly rigorous studies for some flaw when we all know you disagree with the outcome, then it is a bit opportunist if you then ignore flaws when you support the outcome.

It takes years to build MTSS. It needs visible systems & structures, strong leadership, relentless attention to detail, and teacher & student success at the centre of every aim. I’m so proud of Team Docklands Primary School and a special shout out to Maths leaders Brydon and Brad Nguyen.

Nice Guys, Happy Family pix, & DV🧵 The first time my ex husband hit me, was after I had taken $200 out of our account to put a deposit on a washing machine. He apparently used to check the bank balance on his way home from work each night (no atms/online banking back then). 1/

Vietnam has a new top leader. There is a lot of interest in what it means for Vietnam and for the region. We can’t predict the future. But there are some things that probably won’t happen. 🧵

At the height of One Million Checkboxes's popularity I thought I'd been hacked. A few hours later I was tearing up, extraordinarily proud of some brilliant teens. A thread about my favorite story from running OMCB....

This was interesting, but I don't think the evidence linking the ideas to load or teaching approaches is strong. It might be testable, but then someone does have to actually test it. - David Geary: Why learning is hard - and how to make it easier tes.com/magazine/teach…

As a doctor whose wife experienced 4 miscarriages amongst the 3, now healthy adult children we have raised, I can’t stop thinking about JD Vance’s answers on abortion during the VP debate. Here is the problem with his and Trump’s “leave it to the states” approach. 1/13
