I’m reading through Understanding Distributed Systems book by Roberto Vitillo this week. This is a great book to learn about systems engineering for the first time or refresh concepts you learned in an education setting. It’s a great book! understandingdistributed.systems

This Facebook outage is a prime example of one of the unfathomably stupid design decisions in DNS: if resolvers just served the "stale" cache entries, everything would likely be fine right now. The records rarely change, it's madness to treat TTLs like time-bombs.

I'm looking for a developer to help me bring the #tlaplus #vscode extension to feature parity with the TLA+ Toolbox. Please reach out to me if you're familiar with #vscode, curious about specification languages, and open to contract work (US).

This! I still remember distinctively feeling dumb seeing old-heads going from A straight to C. Give it time and don't feel discouraged; it means you are in a good place to learn from your colleagues and grow.

Oh, the joys of being a self-published author. Someone uploaded a modified version of my book with missing pages, images etc on the Kindle store and started selling it. Alex Xu told me once that happened to his book as well, so I should feel honored!

Microsoft is not a Silicon Valley darling, so it is often overlooked. But the behemoth in Redmond teaches us valuable lessons in startup strategy, cloud infrastructure, and the future of software. I wrote about my learnings here: luttig.substack.com/p/dont-forget-…

Kyiv, our splendid, peaceful city, survived another night under attacks by Russian ground forces, missiles. One of them has hit a residential apartment in Kyiv. I demand the world: fully isolate Russia, expel ambassadors, oil embargo, ruin its economy. Stop Russian war criminals!

I am delighted to announce the new, updated, learntla.com! This new TLA+ guide took six months of work and is almost 40,000 words long, and I already have a million ideas on what to add next. Suitable for both beginning learners and advanced users alike!
