Oh Boy! is the 1st exhibition devoted to historical boy's dress, a fashion history generally overlooked. Over the last 30 years, artist/collector #alistairpeebles has formed an outstanding collection. ‘Breeched: no more dresses’ co-curated by #amydelahaye is @fashiontextilemuseum

Been thinking (and lecturing) about the broad history of protest textiles. Here are 4 fave examples: Mary, Queen of Scots’ “A Catte” (Royal Collection Trust), A.T. Casdagli’s sampler (private collection), Hannah Powell’s petition against execution (LACMA), Greenham Common banners (The Peace Museum)

This colour circle of naturally dyed yarns were dyed in 1970 and still look vibrant today, over fifty years later. They include madder, indigo, cochineal and weld. Part of a collection from Denmark’s Teaching High School via museummidtjylland.dk

In the last ten years, I've seen: 1. A small cottage industry of made-to-measure Shetland sweater knitters disappear. 2. Two bridle leather goods makers close down. No replacements. 3. A major West End bespoke shoemaking firm shutter. 4. Two major American suit factories

Auld Lang Syne, the Scots-language poem written by Robert Burns in 1788, was set to a much older Scottish/Irish melody and is now sung all over the world to welcome the new year. Happy New Year from the west of Ireland!

I was lucky enough to be awarded one of these fellowships in 2016 & got to spend 4 amazing months in Washington DC. My thesis was completely changed by the collections I had access to - not only my host institution but others I contacted during my time there. HIGHLY recommend! ❤️

Imagine unfurling something that Mary Queen of Scots created 😮 Here is a glimpse behind the scenes today as we work on a project with University of Stirling. This is the Blue Blanket, a saltire banner that Queen Mary and 'the four Marys' (her besties) sewed together. 👸💁‍♀️💁‍♀️💁‍♀️💁‍♀️

While reshelving this 1838 edition of 'Essay on the Geology of the Lothians' by RJH Cunningham, we found this charming little watercolour of the Bass Rock surrounded with gannets. #foundfriday #librarytwitter
